Maintenance intervals & EU 517/2014 regulation

According to the EU 517/2014 & 2067/2015 legislation, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment containing green house gases (HFC-FGAS) is due to annual inspections from authorized personel.

The operators of this type of equipment are responsible for:

1. Regular system maintenance with frequency according to the type and amount of the refrigerant contained in the system.
2. Assigning installation, servicing, maintenance, repair, decommissioning, leakage cheking and F-gas recovery to certified personel
3. Record keeping of the regular maintenance and repairs.
4. Annual report sent to .

Air conditioning reduced efficiency

When the air conditioning system does not cool or heat well enough, the main cause is lack of regular maintenance.

Air filtres and heat exchangers are clogged, resulting in reduced air flow.

The scheduled execution of regular maintenance prevents the need for emergency visits at peak times, saves energy and ensures indoor air quality.

Which air conditioning system to choose?

The system selection and type of indoors units ia a function of many factors, There are both andvantages and disandvantages for all options. The final selection is made by examining the special needs of each case.

Room temperature setting

Common room temperature settings:

Winter: from 20 to 23οC

Spring & Autumn (cooling mode): from 22 to 24οC, in order to achieve low relative humidity level

Summer: from 25 to 28οC

The comfort setting is related to:

• people activity (e.g. walking, standing, sleeping κ.τ.λ.),

• clothing,

• room air velocity

• relative humidity and

• hot or cold suraface areas (windows).

Indoor Air Quality

Various gases are emitted from materials used for the manufacture of furniture, carpets, appliances, plastics, etc. and carbon dioxide and moisture from human breath.

The purpose of ventilation is to reduce the various substances concentrations (dilution),  renewing part of the air volume of the interior space with fresh filtered air.

Legionella

Legionellosis is an infection caused by a bacterium named Legionella Pneumophila.

Legionella are natural inhabitants of water and can be detected in rivers, lakes and streams.

Since Legionella is widespread in the environment, it cannot be prevented from
entering water systems. However the risk of an outbreak can be reduced by ensuring that regular maintenance, cleaning and treatment of susceptible equipment is undertaken.
